This past academic year, students in Mr. Bargar's United States History class at Polo High School embarked on an impactful initiative known as "The Grateful Nation Project." This innovative program goes beyond traditional curriculum, deeply immersing students in the profound sacrifices made by U.S. servicemen and women and their families. By adding a personal dimension to historical dates and events, the project fosters a deeper understanding and appreciation for military service.
"The Grateful Nation Project" has garnered significant acclaim, recently achieving national recognition during this year's National Memorial Day Concert broadcast on PBS. The project's success has also put Mr. Bargar's class in the local spotlight, with news outlets highlighting their remarkable work.
A segment featuring the project was broadcast on PBS and can be viewed here. Further details on Mr. Bargar's class and their participation in "The Grateful Nation Project" are available in an article by Shaw Local News: https://www.shawlocal.com/ogle-county-news/news/local/2025/05/21/polo-students-honor-veterans-by-taking-part-in-the-grateful-nation-project/
This project stands as a testament to the power of experiential learning, connecting students directly with the human stories behind historical narratives and instilling a profound sense of gratitude and respect.

New Staff 2025-2026!

The Polo Community School District and the Polo School Foundation are thrilled to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Stephen Hardy, Class of 1961, for his incredibly generous donation of $10,000.
Dr. Hardy's gift has been thoughtfully allocated to benefit our students and school community in meaningful ways. The Polo School District has received $5,000, which will be used to purchase and install brand-new shot clocks – a wonderful enhancement for our athletic programs, made even more special as they are dedicated in memory of Coach Philip Hardy.
Additionally, the Polo School Foundation has received $5,000 to establish two $2,500 scholarships. These will be awarded to one deserving male and one deserving female student in the graduating Class of 2026, helping them pursue their academic dreams.
We understand that Dr. Hardy's fond memories of his time at Polo inspired this act of giving back to the community he cherishes. On behalf of both the District and the Foundation, we are truly thankful for the continued support from our alumni. It's heartwarming to see former students like Dr. Hardy contribute so significantly to the future of Polo!
